Background : ADAR1 is also named as ADAR1 DSRAD, G1P1 IFI4. It convert selected adenosine residues into inosine in substrate RNAs containing a relatively short dsRNA region(PMID : 15556947). The human ADAR1 gene specifies two Volume forms of RNA-specific adenosine deaminase, an interferon(IFN) inducible ?150 kDa protein and a constitutively expressed N-terminally truncated ?110 kDa protein, encoded by transcripts with alternative exon 1 structures that initiate from different promoters(PMID : 11111054). It has 5 isoforms produced by alternative promoter usage and alternative splicing. Defects in ADAR are a cause of dyschromatosis symmetrical hereditaria(DSH).ADAR1 can form respective homodimers, and this association is essential for its enzymatic activities(PMID : 17428802).

Background : The ADAMs(A Disintegrin And Metalloprotease) are m µLtidomain transmembrane proteins. One of the first ADAMs implicated in membrane shedding is ADAM-17, which is shown to release the active form of tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-a from its precursor(PMID : 18238782). ADAM17 is also named as CSVP, TACE. The f µLl length protein has 9 glycosylation sites, a signal peptide, propeptide and 2 isoforms produced by alternative splicing.The 120-kDa form of ADAM-17 is expressed more frequently and at higher levels in primary breast carcinomas compared with normal breast tissue(PMID : 17438092). Background : This gene encodes a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain) family. Members of this family are membrane-anchored proteins structurally related to snake venom disintegrins, and have been implicated in a variety of biologic processes involving cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, including fertilization, muscle development, and neurogenesis. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature protease. The encoded protease functions in the ectodomain shedding of tumor necrosis factor-alpha, in which soluble tumor necrosis factor-alpha is released from the membrane-bound precursor. This protease also functions in the processing of numerous other substrates, including cell adhesion proteins, cytokine and growth factor receptors and epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor ligands. The encoded protein also plays a prominent role in the activation of the Notch signaling pathway. Elevated expression of this gene has been observed in specific cell types derived from psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, m µLtiple sclerosis and Crohn's disease patients, s µggesting that the encoded protein may play a role in autoimmune disease.
