Background : Energy-dependent phospholipid efflux translocator that acts as a positive reg µLator of biliary lipid secretion. Background : May function as a general inhibitor of the histone deacetylase HDAC1. Binding to the pocket region of RB1 may displace HDAC1 from RB1/E2F complexes, leading to activation of E2F target genes and cell cycle progression. Conversely, displacement of HDAC1 from SP1 bound to the CDKN1A promoter leads to increased expression of this CDK inhibitor and blocks cell cycle progression. May play a role in asymmetric distribution of phospholipids in the canic µLar membrane. May have a role in transport of bile acids into the canalic µLus, uptake of bile acids from intestinal contents into intestinal mucosa or both. In cooperation with ABCB4 may be involved in establishing integrity of the canalic µLar membrane thus protecting hepatocytes from bile salts. Together with TMEM30A is involved in uptake of the synthetic dr µg alkylphospholipid perifosine. Involved in the microvillus formation in polarized epithelial cells; the function seems to be independent from its flippase activity. Required for the preservation of cochlear hair cells in the inner ear. May act as cardiolipin transporter during inflammatory injury.
