Background : ANKMY1 (ankyrin repeat and MYND domain containing 1), also known as ZMYND13 or TSAL1 is a 941 amino acid protein that contains seven ANK repeats, three MORN repeats and one MYND-type zinc finger. MORN repeats were first identified in junctophilins, cytoplasmic proteins involved in junctions between the plasma membrane and the ER/SR membrane. The presence of MORN repeats s µggests that ANKMY1 may interact with the plasma membrane. The MYND domain consists of a cluster of cysteine and histidine residues, arranged with an invariant spacing to form a potential zinc-binding motif which may be involved in protein-protein interactions.

Inhibits proliferation, migration, and tub µLe formation of endothelial cells and reduces vasc µLar leakage. May exert a protective function on endothelial cells thro µgh an endocrine action. It is directly involved in reg µLating glucose homeostasis, lipid metabolism, and ins µLin sensitivity. In response to hypoxia, the unprocessed form of the protein accum µLates in the subendothelial extracell µLar matrix (ECM). The matrix-associated and immobilized unprocessed form limits the formation of actin stress fibers and focal contacts in the adhering endothelial cells and inhibits their adhesion. It also decreases motility of endothelial cells and inhibits the sprouting and tube formation (By similarity).
