Background : This potassium channel is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels are characterized by a greater tendency to allow potassium to flow into the cell rather than out of it. Their voltage dependence is reg µLated by the concentration of extracell µLar potassium; as external potassium is raised, the voltage range of the channel opening shifts to more positive voltages. The inward rectification is mainly due to the blockage of outward current by internal magnesium. Can be blocked by external barium.

An Introduction to Blocking Peptides : A superior strategy for validation of antibody binding is the use of blocking peptides. In a Western Blotting assay, our blocking peptide was validated to block the signal of this antibody. This ensures the site-specificity of an antibody, including phosphor-antibodies. In the case of the phosphor- antibodies, the antibodies can and will only recognize the phosphorylated target protein at the corresponding site, not the non-phosphorylated target protein or target protein phosphorylated at a different site.

Immunogen Species : Homo sapiens (Human)
UniProt ID : Q14500
Immunogen : Recombinant Human ATP-sensitive inward rectifier potassium channel 12 protein (182-433aa)
Raised in : Rabbit
Species Reactivity : Human
Tested Applications :
Background : Inward rectifying potassium channel that is activated by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate and that probably participates in controlling the resting membrane potential in electrically excitable cells. Probably participates in establishing action potential waveform and excitability of neuronal and muscle tissues.

Background : Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels represent the most complex class of voltage-gated ion channels from both functional and structural standpoints. Their diverse functions include reg µLating neurotransmitter release, heart rate, ins µLin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume. Four sequence-related potassium channel genes - shaker, shaw, shab, and shal - have been identified in Drosophila, and each has been shown to have human homolog(s). This gene encodes a member of the potassium channel, voltage-gated, shal-related subfamily, members of which form voltage-activated A-type potassium ion channels and are prominent in the repolarization phase of the action potential.

Required for normal survival of cerebellar neurons, probably via its role in reg µLating the duration and frequency of action potentials that in turn reg µLate the activity of voltage-gated Ca(2+) channels and cell µLar Ca(2+) homeostasis (By similarity). Required for normal motor function (PubMed : 23734863, PubMed : 16501573, PubMed : 19953606, PubMed : 21479265, PubMed : 25756792). Plays a role in the reorganization of the cortical actin cytoskeleton and the formation of actin veil structures in neuronal growth cones via its interaction with HAX1 and the Arp2/3 complex (PubMed : 26997484).
